Trigger Finger

Post by Jim_k »

Last year I posted about fretting hand pain. Got some good advice here.Even bought Randall Kertz's book. Today I had surgery for trigger finger on my right pinky. Surgery recovery is always painful. So hopefully by next week I'll be back to playing. In the mean time I'll read up on theory. :D

I had trigger finger on the right ring finger about two years ago. The doc injected some steroid directly into the base of the finger, and it cleared it up in about two-three days.

Had a shot twice. First time it eased it up for a short while. The second time, nothing.
So surgery today.

I have had trigger finger in in the middle, ring, and pinky fingers of my right hand for 2 yrs now. Much of the time it is painful, to the point where I essentially had to stop playing guitar. I found that I am much more comfortable playing bass. I had all 3 fingers treated w/ steroid injections. It took 3 wks. to take affect, and only lasted 3 months. I did not go back for a second course, so.....my rheumatologist apparently did not get to tell me about the surgery.......I did meet someone this past Spring who had had the surgery who said it did not take long, and after it healed, has been just great! I have had so much going on this year I have not looked any further, but hope to next year......
Jim K., I really want to hear how your recovery goes as time goes by!
Thanks for posting about it!

I had the stitches removed today. The doctor said it looks good. He gave me some at home therapy to do. Basically soak my hand & make a fist. I’ve tried practicing, before I saw the doctor, it causes pain after using my pinky a few minutes. The doctor said that’s to be expected, let the pain be your guide, as to when to stop.

I had a follow up visit today. Everything looks good. Doctor said; keep working it & lots of lotion for the scar tissue. Call if you have a problem. It feels a lot better not 100% yet.

Thanks guys. I'm glad I don't have a regular gig yet. It does get sore after playing a couple hours.
