Warwick Alien Acoustic Bass...

Post by fivebass52 »

Found this through No Treble...

http://www.notreble.com/buzz/2012/04/30 ... ss-guitar/

More at the Warwick website...

http://www.warwick.de/modules/produkte/ ... atID=24308

The video mentions a left hand model is available, but I wonder if it's available in al models, which include 4-5-6 string models, and a fretless as well.... nice looking bass, and a very nice pickup and EQ system...
R&B Stretch Bass, Walter Woods 1000w Green-Light Stereo Amp, AccuGroove El Whappo and TR112, assorted axes, amps, cabs...

That's the bass Jonas Hellborg used on one of his latest albums. It sounds badass! Adirondack has a 4 strings lefty in stock.

Phillipe, I have been all over these. They are hard to get and a wait time. Dennis at Adirondack does not have the 4 string is stock. He doesnt update his site quick enough. The China ones are pretty nice for the price.

I was blown away by Jonas Hellborg's recording. Slapping, Chords...it all sound very musical and balanced. It is not free demonstration for the sake of showing off. A little "new agey" of course but I loved it.

As you said Jim, they are great instruments for a relatively affordable price. Personally, If I was to get one it would be a 4 strings or a 5 with a high C.

Are you sure that wasn't his signature series bass?

It sounds a lot like an acoustic... here's a vid of him playing it... sounds killer.

I am talking about this solo album he did with a virtuoso idian tabla player and for which he used the Alien. I can't send you a youtube link right now because of those damn corporate filters but if you google "Warwick Alien Jonas Hellborg" you'll see him playing it.
But his signature bass sound insane as well. I think you could enjoy Jonas Hellborg without being a bass player.
I must say he is awesome and a great inspiration...I also love of his concepts about bass gear.

One of the things he said and I've always believed is that on-board preamps don't get enough voltage (9V or 18V) to compete the head-room of a high-end preamp such as an Avalon. If you look for extended tranparency and bandwith it is preferable to use a low-impedance pickup and an external preamp. It is what he did with his Signature model.
Even though, not all musical contexts require an extreme transparency and bandwith.

For the record, they are made in Vietnam not in China. It's really a great price for what you get.

I get those 2 mixed up...... good basses for the price. Check youtube for sound clips

*** EDIT *** My NAMM 2012 Warwick Catalog says Made In China. Either the catalog is a typo or your info is incorrect.

Me too.

I dunno. I have a hard time wrapping my head around justifying a price of $1300+ for a Chinese/Vietnamese made bass. :?
