I messaged the seller. I expect to be ignored or told off.

So I was wrong...

ME: Hi, FYI, this is not a German made Hofner bass, it's an import built in Asia that sells for $600-700 brand new.

HIM: I know that, I'm just trying to make a profit. - losmagills-2008

"Peace, Love and Empathy" ...I don't see too much empathy here...
Technically I am not sure you can report it as he is not misrepresenting the item by selling it is "made in Germany". It is just over-priced and fishing for the mis-informed

Frenchy's right. I tried to report it to Ebay but this doesn't fall within any of the categories Ebay recognizes as meriting reporting.

Everyone should email him to tell him it's not German and his price is too high. :D

I reported it. This is a stretch, but I selected the category 'avoiding ebay fees' and then as a specific reason I selected 'other ways of avoiding ebay fees'. I figure if he were to sell it for this ridiculous price, the ebay fees would be a moot point... Like I said, a stretch, but it's justified in my head now. :| :geek:

If you guy's recall, we previously had an instance where the seller was clearly misrepresenting the item, it was a Squier described as a "Fender Am Std", and although quite a few of us reported the seller, the auction went through. Ebay did not do anything and someone apparently got swindled...

Well, the good thing is no-one bid on it. I'm curious, what gives this away as a Chinese-made model? For anyone wanting a Hofner, the Hofner logo would be convincing enough. Unless a potential buyer knew what questions to ask, an uninformed buyer might buy this. What are the tell-tale signs?

Right off the bat, the control plate and truss cover on the headstock are dead giveaways. The paint job is also more "amber" on these models, at least from what I've seen.

Pretty sure the headstock on the Chinese models looks incredibly cheap compared to their German counterparts.
The finish color is way way off, far more amber(clownburst) than vintage or tobacco burst.

This guy had no chance to sell it, any smart buyer that wants a Beatles style bass is probably going to educated themselves at least a little, and even basic price point comparison makes this one a dead give away.

Still, good effort to call this jerk out on his BS.

He dropped his price to $400 with a Buy it Now of $500.00. Guess he figured he was busted!

You guys are complete dicks. Using an online forum to scheme ebayers, whether right or not, and put private messages on a public forum.
