Re: HELP
I own a Portabass 2x10 that I was using with the Portabass 250 head. I did not care for the head, I thought it sounded thin and too hi-fi.
I use it for small gigs with a Markbass LM2 which is much better but possibly out of your budget. Although I've seen a few on CL for $350.
The Peavey should be fine but you may want to look into getting a head that runs at 2 ohms like some of the Carvin or Eden heads so that you can "expand" one day. Otherwise you will be like me with two 4ohms cabs that you can not use together.

Re: HELP
I've been using the same rig at church for the last 4 years, and it sounds thick and Ampegish. The only issue is volume, which isn't an issue at church.Frenchy-Lefty wrote:I own a Portabass 2x10 that I was using with the Portabass 250 head. Re: HELP
Actually the head sounded alright with my 4X10 4ohms. Mostly, I don't enjoy much playing with a 2X10 and as you say, you are often underpowered with this set up. A more powerful amp mitigates that I guess. Ideally I much prefer playing at low volume with a lot of power and speakers than at high volume with a 2x10. I like to "feel" the bass.

Re: HELP
ok after playing around with the two for a few days i think they sound amazing together the head is great love it peavey did a really good job with this one very versatile lots of different tones and other cool stuff and the cab is awsome it really delivers that classic punchy ampeg tone witch i love so much and its so light compared to other cabs witch is the point of calling it the portabass series i guess
both the head and cab feel very solid and gig worthy so happy that everything turned out good for my first head/cab purchase
