If you have a head that has more power than your cab they call it headroom and it is a good thing to have, but you have the potential to blow speakers if you don't listen to them. They will fart out when the voice coil can not physically move as far as you are trying to push it (xmax). You will know when you are trying to push it too hard, just listen to it. If you stay close to each other (300/200) there are less chances that you will hurt either piece of gear. If you have an Ampeg SVT 8 PRO (800 Watts @ 8 Ohms) and crank it into an Ampeg 2x10AV (200 Watts @ 8 Ohms) you are going to blow up the speakers. Take care.

wow this thread is old and I looked back at my pics from a year ago and tend to forget how long that old heavy rack has been sitting in the jamroom unused because it was all replaced as the gig rig. How times have changed.

but to the topic, I have been running a Mackie 1400i and now a Crown xls1500 thru my 2 hartke 4x10's (the 200watt oldest versions ) for 10 years at least so yes there is always the potential of killing the cabs and I use it a lot at pretty high vols.

in bridged mode where the real watts begin, ya I can fart em out but that is so loud I would never need to be that loud on stage even at the outdoor gigs we play in the summer because the PA makes up for the difference.
