M2 Bass in Italy

Hey guys,

I was looking at the M2 fretless on Arni's site and thought I would post the soundbytes that Federico (owner) sent me. I just wanted to get some feedback and do people think it's worth 1,200 (that includes the shipping from IT).

The thing that gets is the sound on the slapping, it almost sounds like it's not a fretless, is that normal?

I don't know anything about M2 Guitars, and their site doesn't list prices so I'm not sure what the list on this bass would be now.

I don't know that bass but the headstock seems a little big in size so it might be neck diving.
If you absolutely love the color and the figure in the wood, that is cool but, I wouldn't buy a fretless for that feature only.

Usually from my experience, most passive basses can make good fretless for an average usage.

I'm pretty sure you can find a bass locally and you'll have a chance to try it out and save a lot of money also.

Go for a lined fingerboard also,

How much larger does the headstock look than normal? Also, I just really want to find a boutique-ish fretless jazz bass. I can't find one in my area that is in my price range. The sounds posted in the first post seem like they would be good.

Can anyone point me to alternatives? I'm really trying to find jazz bass style pickups, not soap bars or anything

The nice feature of a fretless is the use of the back PU and make sure the PU's are noiseless. This is why soapbars are good in that situation.

For the headstock, it is important that its weight balances the body.

Couldn't upload the soundclip but if the seller is featuring the fretless with slap, it is kinda funny.

Well he posted like 8 different clips, featuring different settings on the PUs and tones. Slap was just one of the clips and I found it weird just due to the fact that it sounded fretted.

By back pu, do you mean neck or bridge?

Bridge pick-up.
With single-coil PU, the only blend possible sometimes is both PU full on.
When using passive single-coil PU,it cand be almost unusable because of the hum noise.

Slap on a fretless could be really cool and snappy especially when you have a hard wood fingerboard or epoxy on it.

The neck on that bass is Tiger maple with Ebony fingerboard. So maybe it is possible to get that snappy, "full-on", sound.

Can anyone tell me what they think of the sound versus other fretless basses in the price range
