For sale Lakland USA Joe Osborn 5 strings

Post by slybass3000 »

Here are the specs...

• Swamp Ash body
• Translucent aged blonde (butterscotch) finish (wood grain is lightly visible through the finish)
• Quarter sawn rock maple neck
• BEAUTIFULLY striped rosewood slab board
• Birdseye maple dot markers
• Stack-knob electronics (V/T & V/T)
• Lindy Fralin custom pickups
• Dunlop Straplok compatible strap buttons
• Chrome front pickup cover
• Hipshot Ultralight Tuners
• OHSC with Lakland logo
• Approximate weight is 9.5 lbs
* 35" scale for a tight B

I bought this bass from Addison few months back. This is a beautiful and great sounding 5 strings bass with a real bite to it. Plenty of highs if needed.

Since I've been playing the same bass for the last 20 years, it is difficult for me to put it aside. I need to finance the printing of my book,so this one has to go.
Price:

Current MSRP on this bass is $4800 with Lakland pickups... "Street" is about $3600... wait time is approximately 14 months.

So, I'm asking 2,100 US + shipping in N.America. For overseas, we'll have to talk about it.

Thank you,

Wow, that's a beauty. If it were under 9 lb, I would seriously consider it. . . And that price is quite good. ;)

Hey Lefty007 I knew you couldn't just own a 4 stringer too long :D I try and tell myself 4 is enough for Jaco so I should be happy with like 1 string but once you go 5 you have a hard time going back to 4. It least for me it's that way...besides fretless. Just bustin yo.

That bass came from Addison then it's got to be smokin in every way. Looks so nice man I am a non vintage kind of guy and this bass still got me thinking of knocking off a 711. Good luck with the sale!!!!!!!!!

LOL

Do you think 0.5 lb will make such a difference?

It is fairly light for a 5 strings actually.

Thank you.

I need to promote my book and put together my bass site.

In the recent years I had a Roscoe, Lull, SR5, Fodera, Lakland 55-94 Deluxe.

The sound and the feel of this JoBo5 is way over all these basses

My cover is blown. . . Well, yes, I could not be without a low-B for long. I have to say it's maily because of my band, because almost every song can benefit from the lower notes (a busy 9-piece Latin-funk ensemble) but personally, I prefer 4-strings. . . Darn.

I've had many basses over 9 lb, and my back really starts to hurt around the middle of the gig. I'm a big pussssss when it comes to weight. . .

Anyhow, not to hijack the thread. . . What an incredible bass!

Sorry you have to let her go Sly!

This is an AWESOME bass... I only let her go because of a redundancy in my collection and to help pay for my Zon... seriously, this is a fantastic price and a GREAT bass.

Here's the original sound sample I made when I sold the bass the first time... KILLER passive Jazz bass tone. I relistened to this again today, and it almost sounds active with the full bottom end and crisp highs.

Don't let this one slip away!!!

As far as weight goes...

I've owned quite a few basses, and only 2 of them have been under 9 lbs.

My Lakland 55-94 was 8.25 and the Blonde Custom Shop Relic that Funky John now owns is like 8.8 I think?

I hear a lot of people on different boards constantly looking for basses in the low 7-8 lbs range, and I can't help but think that it has to be a friggin' nightmare trying to find anything with a solid body with that weight... especially in a 5-string.

My old Thumb 5 NT was a little over 11 lbs, if I remember right... that was too much, especially since it had HORRIBLE neck-dive problems.

But... other than that bass, I don't think I've ever had a problem at all with weight... and I honestly don't think I would even be able to tell if I played a bass all night that was 10 lbs and then played another bass all night that was 9 lbs.

As long as my basses are over 8 and under 11, I think I'm OK.

F Bass BN5 • ZON Legacy Elite 5 • ZON Sonus Elite 5 Fretless • ZON Sonus BG5 • Fender Custom Shop '64 NOS Jazz • Fender Custom Shop '75 NOS Jazz • Fender ADE Precision • Music Man SR4
