Sweet. I love the tone of the Guild 301 and 302- vastly underrated basses- nice warm low end, with really good clarity in the mids. I'd bet this sounds killer as a fretless! I'd be all over this if my fretless playing was worth a crap....but it's not.

Single pickup version I know, but it gives an idea I suppose.

Matt - thanks for the youtube video... its a great sounding bass! Even flat is sounds good. You can tell with the right EQ-ing, a sound close to an upright is quite possible. Very cool bass....

Nice video Matt! Yep, exactly what I expected tone-wise... the lows/ low mids on these basses just kill. I love my fretted 301 and 302....maybe I need to start working on my fretless playing after all....

Oh, that one is so very nice. I would really love to own a fretted one.

This Guild wouldn't be a "re-fret" because it is a true "slab" fretboard...I believe the appropriate term would be a "conversion" from fretless to fretted. I've never had a conversion done on a slab fretless like this. I'm sure it could be done but I would only trust it to a luthier that I know could do it right.

I have a beautiful old Carvin LB60 that had been very professionally converted from fretted to fretless before I got it (frets pulled, wood line inserts, etc.). It's such a nice bass that I tried like hell to get into it as a fretless, but I was hardly ever playing it. Eventually I asked my luthier (one of the best in the country) if he could convert it back to fretted. He charged me $300 and it's perfect, but it was a hell of a job and I'm sure he gave me a deal on that price.

I'm not sure if slab fretless to fretted conversion is an easier (or even harder) job.... one of our builders like Rodent would be better qualified to comment...

My B302 is a bit of an anomaly because it started out as a fretless B302F and someone fretted it (and also replaced the PUPs with some Dimarzios). The truss rod cover still says, "B302F" and it's also a righty cover, since it's upside down.

Luckily, whoever did the conversion did it right, as the intonation's fine. My next step will be to replace the PUPs with Dark Stars, however.

I have the six-stringed "sister" to this bass... a '79 Guild S-60... same color and everything.

If it wasn't fretless, I'd probably bid on it... I love fretless and everything and I own one... I'm just not sure if I dig this particular bass in its fretless form.

Addison, just curious why you wouldn't dig it? Speaking from the perspective of owning two fretted versions (and Matt's Youtube video), it seems like it would be ideal for a fretless player?
