Ooooooh!
Re: Ooooooh!
Not trying to be negative, but!
better snap this up before John Hall busts him for copyright violations. If Ric gets wind of this auction before it's completed they will doubtlessly sick their cadre of lawyers on him and force him to pull the auction.

Re: Ooooooh!
There will probably be a full investigation into how he "acquired several necks" during his employment with Ric, too.
Neat bass though.

No Buy It Now option for this guy. It's John Hall vs The ClockAzWhoFan wrote: better snap this up before John Hall busts him for copyright violations.
Re: Ooooooh!
This is very cool. If anyone's seriously interested you might want to message the seller and offer further contact info to him in case Rickenbacker does shut the auction down.
Re: Ooooooh!
How many left handed instruments is John Hall making these days again?
The seller is pretty clear in stating that it is not a Rickenbacker bass but an instrument culled from a Rick neck and other parts. he built it for his own pleasure and not retail, and now he's selling it as a used custom made bass. I'm not sure John would have a case here but regardless, if Hall wanted a piece of the lefty action then he should offer lefties!

Re: Ooooooh!
And he can start by reissuing the 4005 left-handed as a goodwill gesture!

Re: Ooooooh!
The listing has been pulled by ebay
Re: Ooooooh!
Well personally, I don't get it, unless the neck was stolen or something. But if I wanted to take an old J neck and slap it on a Warmoth body using Fender parts for my own enjoyment, I'm not infringing on anyone's copyright. AFAIK, the guy was not in the business of passing off Rick copies for retail, unlike Ibanez, for example. He built one. Who's to say the body design and components he even used were 100% accurate anyway? A subtle change in headstocks, body shape, etc. is usually enough to steer clear of a lawsuit.FOM wrote:The listing has been pulled by ebay
Re: Ooooooh!
The thing is Hall doesn't need to be in the right, I doubt the seller could afford the lawsuit to be proven right. Classic case of might makes right.
EBMM did the that to Kinal years ago. While Kinal wasn't in the wrong, he changed his basses to comply with EBMM's wishes because, as a small builder, EBMM would crush him in about 5 minutes with legal fees.

He most likely had a side offer that fell through. I do a lot of business on eBay and as far as I could see he wasn't breaking any rules.

Re: Ooooooh!
Don't know a thing about Rick's, but that's a cool looking bass! If I had a stash of mad money lying around, I'd buy "the neck", just to get all the cool extra parts!
R&B Stretch Bass, Walter Woods 1000w Green-Light Stereo Amp, AccuGroove El Whappo and TR112, assorted axes, amps, cabs...

Re: Ooooooh!
I have a friend that knows the builder very well, it's a killer bass. I had a chance to get it before the eBay ad but I don't care for the look... and I have over twenty stupid basses already.
Re: Ooooooh!
Wow your right, that's unfair IMHO. He was so forth coming about everything it worked against him I guess. I see frankenbasses all the time on the bay slip through. None of which I have ever wanted including this guy's hollow Rick. Although it looks as if he did a great job with it from what I can see the action is high. I think it could be adjusted but many times these "projects" look much better on papper than in your hands. Lots of basses smell better than they sound, to me a hollow electric bass is as exciting as "mom jeans".

Re: Ooooooh!
Dale and Hall discussed the ad and Hall was cool with it but Dale took it down anyway. If anyone wants it I can provide Dales info... if he still has it that is.
