New mods on my Jaguar

Post by reynoldbot »

I guess this is the best place to post this:

I just got my Jaguar back from the shop (Leonard Shapiro's shop in Minneapolis) where I got some of the mods I've been wishing for. The two major ones are new pickups: the Aguilar AG-4J 60's (more on those below), and a new preamp: the Aguilar OBP-2. Also, I replaced the stock fender knobs with some really sharp alluminum-cast knobs, had the bass properly shielded, and perhaps strangest of all I had the switches all shaved down (more on that below). So, without further ado, here are some pictures:

The new knobs. Vastly superior to those big plastic ones, which make me feel like my bass is some Fischer-Price toy:

The filed-down switches. I sometimes would accidentally switch them onstage while playing, and since I usually play with just the neck pickup activated, it usually resulted in completely muting the bass mid-song. Problem solved!

Not a new mod, but a mod nontheless:

The Aguilar pickups are VERY nice. They are well-rounded, giving you a real classic Fender tone from the sixties. And they have some real pep to them. My Jaguar growls like a P-Bass now. The preamp too gives me a huge range of control. The original Fender preamp was boost only, and turned up usually sounded metallic and tinny. The Aguilar preamp is boost/cut with a handy center indent, and turned up it sounds powerful and aggressive but not harsh.
