$699 listed at Sweetwater. Not sure when it's shipping. I may have to check this one out.

Mesa Hollywood says October as an estimate for the cabs..no clear statement on the head

Following this too.

I've been contemplating a Tonehammer 500 or the new Tech 21 500 watt class D amp but this Mesa looks to be more in line with my tone/power wants.

Talk that they won't make it rackmountable though, that'd be a big no for me.

I'm liking the matching lightweight 115 cabs too.

I take that back.... Seems as if October may be the estimate for all:

Hmmm....

Yeah, I've been using a Tone Hammer 500 as the back up amp to my Fender SB300 w/6x10 cab on tour. Knock on wood, I've only had to use it once - because of a blown fuse - and I must say, if you're used to 300w of girthy tube power, the TH500 misses the mark in terms of volume without distasteful distortion. (For a big rock gig anyway.) This Mesa might be a better solution as a backup and for smaller gigs. I was thinking about an Ampeg PF800 but I like Mesa stuff WAY better.

Now for the call to Long & McQuade's here in Canada......

NICE! I think I'm gonna head down to the Toronto store tomorrow to try to lock in on that price. With the way the CDN dollar has been fairing against the USD lately, it could get pricier in mere days. Guh...

Interesting. In what way? Does this mean that it can drive a wider variety of cabinets because most amps are 4 ohms?

Exactly. you can pair up your favorite 4 ohm and 8 ohm cabs together without concern about frying the amp.

Exactly. I ran my old SWR at 2.67 ohms for days at high volume with no problems, pushing two 2x12 SWR cabs. I still have two 2 ohm capable heads, but most heads lately stop at 4. I like the extra wiggle room.

I haven't talked with Andy about his new amp, but I trust him and would purchase the Mesa based on his reputation.

I know this thread is an oldie but....

I finally picked up one of these heads last week. Got it at Long & McQuade's here in Toronto for $920 CAD+tax. (I'm sure this price will go up very soon with the exchange getting worse over time.) So far it's amazing. Way more headroom than the Aguilar Tone Hammer 500 I was using previously. As far as I can tell so far, it has a way warmer tone than the TH as well. Used it with my Fender 6x10 neo cab and an old custom Kroth 1x15 (a defunct Canadian cab brand) from the eighties with a JBL E140 in it. Both sound great.

This will be my head for smaller gigs and the backup for my Super Bassman 300. I only ever needed to use the TH once as a back up - because of a blown fuse - and it just didn't have the volume I need for bigger gigs without getting ugly. The Mesa won't be a problem there. The fact that it will run at 2 ohms also sealed the deal. I sometimes run my SB300 through two 4 ohm 4x10 cabs and that would have been impossible with the TH.

Lucky for me, the rarity of Aguilar stuff in Canada, coupled with the shitty exchange rate right now, meant I got almost what I paid for the Aguilar rig 4 years ago. (It also means I can't buy any of the cool stuff people have for sale in USD right now.... Ha.)

Read reviews over at Sweetwater, and they're all positive... street price here in the U.S. seems to be steady at $699... including the gig bag. http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/SubwayD800
