Thanks to a tip from Tim in the "southpaw spotted" sub forum, I grabbed a used Micromark 801 ( 1x8) at a pretty decent price.
I gigged with it on Sunday at a very small bar with 1 guitar, a small drum percussion set and a singer. Very restricted noise level so I didn't need a much volume as long as I could get some low end. Perfect gig for the new amp if it would cut it, and it did easily. I got plenty of depth and punch with my Dano Shorthorn and the amp volume only up about half way.
The only tone control on the amp is the adjustable Markbass "VLF" knob which is basically a contour filter that scoops the mids and boosts the lows and highs...a "smile". I'd prefer simple separate bass and treble but working with the VLF and tweaking with the tones on the bass, I could easily get the sound I like.
If you ever get a chance to try one of these, you'll be amazed at the depth you can get out of the little beast!
