Im currently getting my 1990 Jap 62 reissue fender PBass repainted candy apple red. I wanted to give it the real 62 look so i have a set of Chrome ashtray and pickup cover to add to it. I also wanted to give it a different sound to my other basses so i decided to put flat wounds on it. I got a set of La Bella Deep Talking Bass gold flats and they are a stunningly beautiful gold. They look so good.
So here is my question now I've seen these strings. The bass will be candy apple red with white pic guard and gold strings. So im thinking now getting a gold set of bridge and pickup covers rather than the chrome. Your thoughts???

I'm not a fan of gold hardware in general, and I don't think it would match well with CAR. Especially with both covers on, it'll be a LOT of gold.

I agree, I have had a couple of basses with Gold Hardware and for some reason they just don't Pop for me. I know the look your looking for, my friends Dad had a 86 Candy Apple Red Cadillac with Gold and new looked awesome but after a short while the gold just loses the brightness.

Next, not sure if the neck will fit but it may be easier to purchase a Mystic Red Fender P Bass American body from The Stratosphere quicker and maybe cheaper. Technically it's not Candy Apple Red but it really shines and looks killer. I got a Strat body from them and it was packed perfect in a Fender Box and arrived in about a week.

The good thing is that other than the extra cost for the gold parts it isn't a big deal because you can always switch them out and sell them and get some of your cost back. The bigger commitment is whether to install the covers because of the screws holes and possible imperfections in the paint that could result. If you're going for the old school look I'd go with the chrome covers. If you want to go with the gold theme you could go with chrome covers and use gold accents throughout the bass other gold hardware. I have a precision that I used chrome covers, gold control knobs and input jack, gold string T and gold pick guard and chrome cover screws. Less cost and a more balanced use of gold visually.
