Post subject:  Your thoughts on repainting my Fender Precision

Hi I am thinking to repaint my precision and thought i would canvas your thoughts.
I have two Japanese Fender Precisions one full scale and one medium scale but they are both the same color scheme.
The medium scale is an E series made around 1984 to 87 and the full scale made around 1990 and is a 62 reissue. The medium scale is totally stock but the full scale has upgraded pickups, pots, wiring and shielded cavity and sounds great so it's already not original. The full scale also has a number of large cracks in the paint although i was assured they do not extend into the timber and one crack is in the center of the back and goes all the way from top to bottom on the body. I have contacted a local professional guitar restorer and would like to have it done in candy apple red and also change the bridge to a through body Fender bridge keeping with the Fender look just wondered on your thoughts here. Here is a pick of both guitars although i don't think you can see the cracks in the pics.

I'm sure it would look great in CAR. Definitely a color I love.
There's really no point to spending the cash and further modding a bass for string through - you're not going to gain anything substantial by it.
Of course, your bass, your decision.

Just a suggestion, however not sure if a Fender Japan Neck will fit on a US Body for $179 but perhaps you could purchase this US Body (very inexpensive and packed perfect) and use that.

Agreed.

For the price of a refinish, however, why not just pick up another painted body? The Stratosphere currently has an Am Std lefty P bass body in mystic red in stock. I realize it's not exactly candy apple red, but it's a cool color nevertheless. The MIJ neck should fit it (I ordered an MIJ '62 neck for my Am Std P and it was fine):

Ha, you beat me to the punch, Bob. :)

The neck should fit. Stratosphere has an excellent return policy if it doesn't.
