Look at the location of the pickups on this bass. Is it a Hofner? I don't recall ever seeing one with the pickups both up by the neck like that.

That's what's known as a Cavern Bass. You can still get them lefty as well, just not as common. It was Paul McCartney's bass before he acquired "The" Hofner.

Amazing I could go all this time and never notice there was a different model. Something about that design just hits me right. I might have to go after one of those babies.

Check eBay. There was one very recently for sale in Japan. You're looking at $3000 though.

Yep, I'm afraid so. Hofners are super expensive nowadays. I pulled the trigger on a sweet one last year (not a Cavern). That stung for a while. Haha

Maybe it's just as well. 3K just isn't in the cards.
Something to watch for anyway.

Found the listing. Holy shite, did they raise the price! This used to be listed right at 3 grand:

Beautiful but completely over priced.

Why are Hofners so expensive anyway? The whole reason all those pre-fame British bands used them in the early-60s is because they were cheap. Can it really be that there are enough Beatles tribute bands out there are supporting this pricing because they need realistic instruments?

The irony being he once stated he bought the Hofner because he couldn't afford a Fender.
