Not specifically about lefties, but since Hofner is responsible for one of the most famous left handed basses ever made, I thought this would be worth posting here (With a tip of the hat to the Fender FDP forum).

Note how much of the process is not automated but rather relies on the work of a skilled craftsman. Amazing that even in a lefty, the 500/1 series is still only about the same price as an American Fender bass.

It is amazing how much hand work goes into their instruments. It makes me think how much we have emphasized automation in the US and neglected hand crafting - to our detriment I think both in terms of the quality of products and the satisfaction and pride of the people who produce them.

Crafting by hand is a lot more satisfying and fun than pressing a few buttons , I do both for a living.

Impressive video of master craftsmen... I think the guy who chisels out the neck pocket is awesome, and did you see how sharp that chisel was?... Wow!
