I was looking at Eastwood Basses at this site:
http://www.myrareguitars.com/lefthandcollection.html

looking at the standard 4, any body have one?
how bad is the short scale tone?
Build quality?

I've always wanted a EB2 style lefty and it is cheap...

I don't have a Classic 4 (yet), but I own 2 Eastwood basses - the Hi Flyer (Mosrite copy) and the EEB-1 (Ampeg copy). I really like the EEB, it's well built, comfy to play, and has a nice dark, warm P bass tone. It's also made in Korea. My Hi Flyer, OTOH, was made in China and poorly built - arrived with neck pickup swimming around under it's pickup cover, poor setup/intonation, rough edges on pickguard, and even a tuning head that differs from the other 3 (it's a brushed matte finish vs. shiny chrome). It's also long scale, which is not according to Eastwood's specs, so I may have a prototype. otherwise, I do like the sound and playability of the bass. It's completely opposite the EEB, as it has a dark aggressive tone.

Long story short: The quality of their instruments seems to vary depending on what manufacturer they're using. The Korean made instruments are excellent, IMO. I'd inquire about where they make the Classic 4 first, though the price seems good even if you expect some upgrades. If you go to the Eastwood Guitars site directly you can see/hear demos of each instrument: http://www.eastwoodguitars.com

Thanks Pj, the build location is great info to know. I'm a little scared of buying a cheap copy, without playing one. Requires a leap of faith I guess!
