For $175 I couldn't pass it up. Got it at South Austin Music on Saturday. It's nice; has active bass boost and a skinny neck. And it's not black! Photos of the real thing soon.

Nice. I like the SR series basses, and though I don't own any they do offer excellent bang for the buck. They do play smooth and fast, and I think the earlier MIJ SR800 neck thrus have a loyal cult following.

I own an Ibanez SR300DXL in black and after playing my Traben, I dont think it sounds very good...granted, it was my FIRST bass, and it will always be close to me (til I sell it  ) but they do offer, as said before, good bang for buck. Robby Merrill gets custom SR500's lefty (which they do NOT offer for everyone) which I think is a bunch of crap...if they can make his bass lefty from a righty only version, how about giving all of us lefties a shot at it?

Hey, it's not like we sacrifice chickens during a full moon or anything!

Yeah, of course! I also have a 300, but I'll probably sell that one due to me never playing it. Due to the 800's, natch.

Then again, it does sound nice with tapewounds......

So how do these basses differ, Dan? I see different PUPs on them, for one. But do they play/sound much different? What's your preference?

Nice. I've never played an SR800, but when I was playing "guitar" back in the '80s, these were all the rage. I used to play with two bass players who had them, and I still remember they sounded awesome.

I love the reversed-P/J pickup configuration.

Uhh, the bluish one has EMG pickups and an EMG BTC preamp, and it's the best sounding. Of the other 3, one has the AFR pickups, and it's the most trashed; I don't like the pickups so much, but it's not that big a deal, and I sort of feel sorry for it, being all chipped and dinged and stuff. I might put Barts in it, or maybe Basslines. The last 2 both have the LO-Z pickups, which I prefer to the AFR's; one is fretless. Honestly, I bought them for the weight and the thin necks; my memory of the first one I bought 20 years ago was it wasn't quite as good sounding as the Roadstar I had, but these all sound pretty good to me.
