Perhaps. According to the people at Sam Ash, they pretty much pleaded with Rickenbacker to send them a 4003 for their showroom, and were totally bummed out when they shipped a lefty to them (I felt no such sadness of course, LOL). I was also told that all Sam Ash stores were sent an e-mail by the Rick people saying that they would be "on hiatus" from building basses forsome time (I assume this means lefties, I can't picture them cutting out righties even for a short period). I'v only wanted one Rick, and I'm thrilled with this one! If I never get another, that's fine, it's a great instrument.

Yes the 2008 range of 4003s finally have proper lefty inlays. Cause to celebrate. I guess bothering John Hall every year about it works if you are patient.

I guess I dont understand why I'd celebrate the inlays, I prefer the backwards ones.

I stopped into Manny's in NYC yesterday in a rare moment of freedom away from fatherhood. They had a new black lefty Rick 4003 there that I got to try out. Nice bass, light-weight, correct inlays AND a true lefty headstock (which never bothered me anyway). $1999.99, but could probably be talked down.

They also had a lefty Contemporary series Hofner Violin bass in stock too. I liked it. Better build and quality than the Icons, with a wider neck than the other Hofners and knockoffs I've played (like my Rogue).

My God! A fully lefthanded Ric! I am truly amazed!
Congrats on your new basses guys.
One of the guys over on the Lowdown has been waiting for his Ric for 4 YEARS, and he is righthanded!

It seems to me that Rickenbacker's business practices still leave much to be desired.
