I'm sure you've heard that Rickenbacker is doing a new semi-hollow bass, the 4005XC, for the company's 90th anniversary. It's not a reissue of the old one, which was shaped similarly to the 360 and was I believe fully hollow. The new one is shaped like a bound 330 and is semi-hollow like the guitars. I guess John Hall got tired of 30 years worth of pestering to make something like this.

There are only going to be 90 made supposedly and I haven't been able to find how many of those, if any, will be lefty. Rickenbacker seems to have a decent track record of doing lefties in their limited editions. Anyone find anything about that?

I like that it's a shortscale too, unlike the original 4005. It looks tremendously cool!
It's also pretty expensive, and the Reverb listing says it's already sold out! That went quick :)
I don't know about lefties, but I wouldn't get your hopes up.

Didn't actually notice that it was a short scale! I wonder what the logic behind that was? Nothing against short-scales, but as you say, since the original was long scale, as are almost all Rick basses, why go short here?

I've got too many basses for a 52-year old weekend warrior to buy another, but I am always curious about the lefties. And I used to dream of 4005s in my younger days, so this naturally got me wondering about the lefties.

I didn't notice at first, until I saw it had 24 frets and the bridge is moved forward compared to the original 4005. Then I read the description
I've never been a fan of the looks of the original 4005 (I think it kinda resembles a blobfish) but I like this!
