In the search for a decent fretless that comes close to my specs... I found a place that would order a Fretless, maple-board L2000 for around $1500. Is this fair? Is there a better dealer in NYC/CT area I should consider?

Have any of my fellow lefties ever order a G&L with custom features? How are the american G&Ls these days? I used to work in a repair shop at a big store in the mid 90s in CT, and while we had a couple with neck issues, their customer service was fantastic and they made those few issues right by the customer.

Thanks!

See G& L Incoming- below. I think there are a few others that have order them as well. If too I'm sure they will be more than glad to share their knowledge.

I work for a dealer in Canada that handles G&L and I do a lot of the custom ordering with G&L myself. They're excellent, top to bottom.
I would say that for the most part, your experience is going to hinge more on the sales person you're working with conveying the right information to G&L.

As far as build quality these days, they're pretty much at the top of the game for custom builders. If they do have any issues with anything, they do their best to take care of it right away for the customer with as little headache as possible.

With the quantity of options available at G&L, it's best to make sure you do your homework before settling on your final order. One thing I do know from experience is it's not good to try to change anything you've selected mid-build.

I'm currently ordering a new one for myself right away, but I'm having the damnedest time picking my colour choice. They have too many good reds. They have too many good colours.

Hi theMilford, and welcome to oour little lefty corner of cybespace!

I bought a JB-5 from G&L last month and couldn't be happier. It was an off-the-shelf build that had been sitting in their warehouse for about a year, and didn't suffer anything worse for the wear when it arrived at my house. It was set up quite nicely. String height was set to spec, neck was straight. This was the first G&L product I've played - to the best of my recollection - and now I have to ask myself why I didn't take the plunge before :-)

So I wouldn't hesitate to recommend their products.

I'm talking with Upfront. They gave me a quote. They are eastcoast as am I.

Here's what I'm requesting:
L2000 (Lefty, of course)
Fretless maple neck, No lines, Gloss, No tint.
Ash body with Blonde (white) finish.
3-way PU switch upgrade (Series/Parallel/Single)
Asking for white pickups if they still have them.
Considering 7.5" radius... I'm oldschool, with short fat fingers.
Also, maybe considering quartersawn neck.

What do you guys think?

I ordered a bass from Upfront in 2017.
Gordon and Greg where very nice/helpful and I highly recommend them to anyone interested in a new G&L order.
This is what I ordered, it had a tort guard before and I swapped it to black and added the 60's JB style harness to it.
This bass turned out better than I expected.

7.5" radius can feel VERY narrow. But if you have shorter fingers it is probably the best profile. I found for myself that it was way too narrow, I had it on a JB2 that I let go a couple years back because I prefer the 9.5" radius

White blonde with white pickups and a non-tinted maple board would look pretty classy. Good call on the switch upgrade, K-mod turns an L2000 into the Swiss Army knife of basses.
