That's a good mix of basses there.

I finally had a chance to crank it up and almost screamed for joy. It's got the most enormous bass with that typical rasp, subtler when you need it to be on the bass string. If I can capture its sounds when recording, I'll be a happy idiot. The lower B is fantastic, but I'm talking about the rest of it as well. It's so responsive to the touch, can go from mellow to bite your throat in a moment. I'm pretty into it.

I took some more detailed pics of it.

Black abalone inlays--I love blocks, but I wanted something nice but subtle, just a frill

The bridge is a solid piece. Great sustain on the bass, whatever the reason.

I'm not used to the width, but I'll get there. It's not unreasonably wide for a 5 string. This is just my first experience with one.

Thanks, guys. Yes, I'm nutz about it, and yes, Paulo, you need to try a G&L.

I've had quite a few near-religious experiences, but two stand out: the first time I plugged my Ric into someone's SVT and fridge cab at a live show. Hadn't had the chance for a soundcheck, so we plugged, counted in, and I did not expect the tsunami of sound that rumbled me from brain to guts. The shock of it was soooo good. I'd never heard my Ric sound that good.

2nd, the G&L experience yesterday. I think it was the surprise at and shock of how impressive the sound was. And I was playing through my Fender Rumble 350. Because I'm painting my music room, I can't get to my Ampeg V-4B, but damn, the G&L through that Rumble sounds like musical thunder.

LOL, sounds familiar. I had owned my Rickenbacker 4003 for a while already when I was able to buy a cheap silverface Fender Bassman 50 with a 215 cab and it sounded incredible! Rickenbackers really shine through a tube amp. I haven't kept either one, the Bassman 50 was underpowered for the job (but made for an absolutely brilliant guitar amp!) and I had to sell the Rick when I totalled my previous car and needed the money.

Happy to hear the G&L is working so well for you! It looks stellar, I love the finish and I have a thing for maple fingerboards. It looks really tasty and luxurious without being flashy! Well done 8-)

Thanks, Jeroen. I've got a modest but good set of basses, each a different model that does it's unique thing. I figured the G&L would be like the Fender, but with that 5th string. While the two have similar tones, they're different animals. So the G&L does its own thing. Gives me another unique tool for writing and recording.
