Technically I have this for a while but just got it delivered.
It came directly from Brazil, it was made there.
Looking at it, looks just like another Fender rip off.
Even closer to a MIJ 62RI JB I think.
What got me hooked was the wood, I was curious to give it a try.
This is a Tagima bass, I've sent them an email and they said it was made in the early 2000's.
The neck wood is called "pau marfim" and the body is "marupá".
I copied the text description from Google:
Marupá: it is a white/yellowishy wood, from Brazil, it is more suitable to Stratocaster and telecaster constructions .
it has Bold Highs, and its overal sound is similar to Korina, Poplar, Sycamore.
i had 2 guitars with that wood. and it can handle metal.
it is not a very bright like maple wood, it has well balanced sound, not proeminnent highs. good bass and highs.
Pau marfim: This timber has high rating across all strength categories, and works well with both hand and machine tools. There is a moderate to severe blunting effect on cutting edges. It nails, screws and glues easily, and can be stained and polished to an excellent smooth finish.
Sounds great, I'm very happy with it!
I upgraded the tuners with Hipshot HB-2 and a nice Hipshot Kickass bridge with the help of Billw97, thanks a lot Bill!
The strings on it are La Bella stainless steel round wound and the PUs are EMG that came with the bass.
Check out the crazy cross grain pattern on the neck (photos where enhanced a bit to make it visible).

Very nice Paulo, and thanks for all the info! The Maple grain is the most unusual I've ever seen... reminds me of Alligator hide! :)

Very cool! I would be really interested to know how it sounds.

It manages to still be pretty unique despite being a "rip off" :)

Wow the grain on the back of the neck is insane! I've never seen anything like it. Congrats on a cool bass!
