I was not loving the glam sparkle on this bass and was very curious about applying a black finish to the top.
Even known it may not stay for a long time it gives me an idea of what would look like. Turns out I really like it, let's see how long it will stay! In case I change my mind it'll peel right off.
The tuners where upgraded with Hipshot Ultralite with pearl tuning keys and a Hipshot bridge custom made specially for this bass by Billw97. Thanks a lot Bill! The upgrades made a HUGE impact on this bass!

Looks pretty cool. How did you apply it?

Oh, yeah! That looks really good, man! That looks way better than the sparkle.

I have never heard of that product before. That is something I will definitely have to look in to if I ever decide to re-finish an instrument. That sounds way safer than sanding off the stock finish.

Are you planning to do the headstock, as well?

That actually came our very nicely. Maybe apply a satin fixative to make it last a little longer? Shouldn't make it any harder to remove should you wish.

Just cleaned the surface (top only) then taped the sides and applied about 2 thick coats to it.
In about 30 minutes I was putting it back together. I should wait a little more but I didn't. From what I see, would be nice to have about 4 coats on it. But 2 will do it for now!

If I apply more coats I could apply a coat of satin to it but I wanted to try it first since I have the strong impression that it may peel off on the top corner where my left arm leans on the body since this bass has a fairly sharp corner with binding. The plasti dip is only on top of the body.Everything else seems not a problem.
I think on a rounded body the finish would go a lot better.

Thank!
I am, but first I want to see how it'll hold!

Very sharp, Paulo. Nice job!

Isn't Plastidip a kind of rubber? (I'm familiar with it as it's used to make rubber grips on tools). How does that bass feel now? (Not to mention sound. Are your bass lines more rubbery? ;) ) Did you apply any to the back of the neck? I'm thinking it would be hard to move around a neck with that stuff on it, but what do I know.

Thanks Peter!
I only applied to the top of it.
It is a liquid from a spray can but dries like rubber!
Feels like rubber too but I didn't noticed any changes on the sound.
