I bought an '86 RB 850 back in '88; I loved the bass, and used it exclusively for a few years, preferring it over my '83 piece of shit p-bass and my '85 Jazz. The first 2 times I recorded in a studio were with this bass.

Later, I bought a new Soundgear 800, thinking it would be even better. It was not. Unfortunately, I sold the RB 850 to a lefty friend who defretted it. A couple of years later, He bought a new fretless Stingray 5, and offered me back the RB 850.

A few years later my friend decided to move up north and sold me his Stingray, so I sold the Ibanez and never saw it again, until a month ago. I had been looking for an RB 850 for a few years without any luck anyway, so I figure why not get my old one and have it refretted?

That's awesome--both that you found it and that it's still in great condition!

Good story, congrats on your reunion. :) I've been looking for one of those for years (in white too) as well.

Great story of a love lost.... and found again! Hopefully the re-fret isn't
too expensive, and comes out like you remember it!

Awesome. I found my doubleneck bass on Ebay by chance. The good thing is you could replace that neck with a righty
if needed. They come up pretty often.

I hadn't thought about a righty neck. Anyway, I already took it to the shop. I 'll end up paying about $100 more than I wanted to, but I'm okay with that.

Really cool that you found it!

That thing looks awesome, the strings on the fretless neck remind me of a pair of tights a friend owns. Awesome that you got it back after all this time!

Finally got it done. Now I remember why I liked it so much; it just feels so comfortable and sounds great. I have old strings on it, but they don't sound old, so I guess I'll keep them on for a while. The luthier did a great job. The bass had pearloid dots and a black nut originally; now the nut is white and the dots are abalone.
