Ah, the mysteries of Fender production circa 1970s.

- no date stamp on neck. But there is a "special" stamp, and this is an "A" neck for sure. Seller says he custom ordered it. Based on what I've read, most 70s necks have stamps but not all.

My '73 P has a B neck and is stamped, "Jan. 5th, 1973", "Special", and "D. Torres". HOWEVER, the headstock has no patent numbers listed under the Fender logo. So there's all sorts of weird anomalies out there when it comes to lefties.

I have two 1973 P basses, both date stamped and both stamped Torres. Both B necks. Seems like Fender did a good batch of lefty B neck P basses in '73.

About a year ago I bought a 73 P Bass with an "A" and rosewood board. A great feeling neck. It too has no patent numbers under the logo. Initially I was concerned,( in mint condition) but I've been watching closely for other examples and I've seen at lease 5 or 6 maybe more in that short time.. A couple have shown up here and are owned by board members. I think one was a Mustang that was purchased by a member about six months ago. So it's not as rare for this time period as it first seemed to me.
