Found this old BP Magazine from August 1997.
Buried on page 24 was article about LA Bass Exchange grand opening. Saw that picture (red circled bass), made a phone call, and $750 later that July 1996 Stingray arrived. Still have it.

Got it just before I found a heavily worn/pitted 1974 Rickenbacker 4001 in local shop.
Still have both

Out of all the basses I've bought over the years, for some strange reason, I never bought one of these... should have!

I bought my first Stingray in '97 too, at Manny's? in NYC. Sunburst with an unfinished maple neck. I'm sorry to say, that bass was an absolute lemon. The neck would bow up like a cross bow and needed adjusting every 2 or 3 weeks. Hopefully yours has been solid.
