All, I teamed up with some friends and using nothing but home recording equipment and dropbox to file share we re-did a version a version of the of great classic albums "Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars". Nothing can compete to the original but this was fun to do. For this project I used my 78 Fender Jazz bass.

Sounds great. :) Vocalist really tapped into his inner Ziggy. Interesting way to record too. Did everyone use Pro Tools, Logic, etc?

To record this project both Myself and the singer used Tracktion (it's Software by Mackie) to record, it makes it easier to share the files. However the person who did acoustic gtr and keyboards used a different SW. When it came time to share we would just post the wav files on dropbox being very careful how we names the files. Example Suffragette City G2 (guitar 2) or Gl (Guitar lead).

The key was we would render each track so if I had 2 different takes for the bass, (perhaps I messed up during the lead and did a retake from that spot) I would render that as one file. It was a very easy process and cool to do as we all did it in our spare time at home. I would always to prefer to record live however with kids, gigs, jobs ect just hard to find the time for a project like this.

Interesting. My old band is doing a reunion in August and we talked about possibly recording some new songs, but everyone's too busy to get together. I might try this. Wanted to get into cyber collaborations anyway. :)
