Jersey shore.....only a short trip. I was in Monday. Water was 48.
I'd rather be surfing in Hawaii....been out there 3 times. Might eventually move there. Got great friends on the big and maui....
In the meantime, heavy wetsuit is the cure for the wave jones.
Mahalo!

Even with a wetsuit, 48 degrees is brutal! Used to dive off Northern California (above Jenner, up to Mendocino...) for abalone, in a full wetsuit, and it was Never pleasant jumping in the water, and having that frigid water seep into the suit! Once all my blood left the surface of my body, and my body warmth heated up the water inside the suit, we would dive for up to three hours, collect a couple of sea urchins as well, take off our wetsuit jackets, crack open the urchins, and spread the roe on San Francisco sourdough bread, with a squeeze of lemon, and wash it down with a cold beer! Then we'd head for home and fry up a fresh batch of abalone!

OK, done hijacking the original thread now... next time you come over, and have a few days on Oahu, let me know... Aloha! :)

I certified in Monterey Bay in 14mm of rented wetsuit. 54 degrees according to my log. I don't even want to think about 48.

But I miss Cali terribly, despite the Humbolt.

It was a 7mm shortie over a 7mm full. And it was old and lacking elasticity. Not comfortable!
