I had no idea Modulus made lefty Quantums yet, and I`m looking for one, but not in this colour though. ;)

They used to make Q basses, but they don't make them anymore... so if you're waiting for one, you might be waiting a long time.

Probably forever.

A dealer (DrumCity GuitarLand maybe?) told me they stopped making them because their mold for lefty necks developed a problem that couldn't be corrected and it had to be destroyed.

I dunno if that's true or not... especially since it doesn't seem to make sense... but... either way, lefty Q basses are very, very rare... especially in this condition.

That mould story is true AFAIK. IIRC, Modulus couldn't get any consistent quality control from the form. They ended up with way too many rejects to make it cost feasable. I remember something like "they looked great until we took them out of the mold and realized there were twists or waves in the neck"

I believe carbon fiber isn't the easiest material to work with. I do know that it is common to have high rejection rates. But Status Graphite appears to have overcome QC issues, so maybe Modulus just can't/won't justify the business case for tooling up for us lefties.

That's definitely part of it. I spoke to someone at Modulus years ago. Apparently the molds cost about $10,000 each, which is why they won't do them for lefties.

The thing that didn't make sense to me is this:

Did the mold break for 4, 5, and 6 string necks?

Logic tells me that they would have a separate mold for each neck type and that it would be odd if they ALL went bad, but... I'm not very familiar with the process so maybe I'm wrong.

These basses are truly rare. In my 12 years of browsing stores, forums, and eBay, I've only seen another lefty Modulus Q, a Q6 that was on eBay and Atlanta Bass Gallery. Actually never seen another Q5, and never seen a Q4.

That's the same story I got straight from Modulus when I e-mailed them years ago about ordering a Q5.

So, if you want a lefty Q5, this is it.

I takes a lot of man to play a pink/fuscia bass, but chicks would really dig it. I get excellent results every time I wear my tight, pink, polo shirt. . . No seriously, I think the color is so unique that it's awesome.

I think it's hip as hell. Would Flea worry about playing a pink bass? Larry Graham? Bootsy? Les? HELL NO!!! If it's good enough for them, it's good enough for us!!! It's a shame none of them are lefties.....:D
