I sort of hope I haven't yet heard my all time favorite band, but these are a good bet on any given day. Embarrassingly, a couple don't have a designated bassist!

Wire
Blonde Redhead
XTC
Mew
Love & Rockets
Unwound
My Dad Is Dead
Deerhoof
The Cure
The Soviettes

Oky Doky, here's my stab at it, in no particular order, as it changes daily:

Husker Du
Leatherface
Social Distortion
Senseless Things
Tsunami Bomb
Bambix
Mission of Burma
Dead Kennedys
Black Sabbath
The Lemonheads (early stuff)

I really need a top twenty to do it justice, as Nirvana, The Misfits, Face to Face, Les Thugs and many others deserve a place in the proceedings.

1. The Ramones
Excellent overview of the Ramones in recent Onion AV Club...

The Ramones: Getting into the two-minute masterpieces of punk’s godfathers
http://www.avclub.com/articles/ramones,53912/

The high esteem in which the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame-inducted group is held—and the monolithic homogeneity of its songs, a quality that’s exaggerated by both fans and detractors—can be a turnoff to the uninitiated. So can the deliberately mind-numbing brattiness of the Ramones’ music. Beneath the cartooniness, though, is a body of music that transcends punk. The group’s mix of innocence, belligerence, whimsy, idiocy, heartache, camp, and classic songcraft make for a palette as deep and broad as that of any artist in the pop canon.

This is tough for me, as I have a very broad taste in music, but I'm mostly into modern (melodic) metal and progressive rock. I'll give it a shot. In random order though, because I really can't decide which is 1 and which is 10.

Pink Floyd
Spock's Beard
Opeth
Katatonia
Ayreon and anything else Arjen Anthony Lucassen does nowadays
Porcupine Tree / Blackfield / Steven Wilson (Steven is the driving force in both bands, but also has an impressive solo album out)
Evergrey
Insomnium
Muse
The Gathering

Especially Ayreon never ceases to amaze me. Arjen Lucassen was the lead guitar player in 80's hairmetalbands Bodine and Vengeance for a long time, and now makes amazing rock and metal operas with various incredible vocalists and instrumentalists. His work with Ayreon is heavily influenced by 60's progressive rock and folkrock, 80's heavy metal and modern metal and he has gained quite a reputation in the genre, making it easier for him to get more famous and incredible singers to work with him.
His latest piece of work is with a new band called Guilt Machine, which, for the first time in years, features just one vocalist (Jasper Steverlinck of Arid) and all lead guitars are played by Lori Linstruth instead of Arjen. Chris Maitland (ex-Porcupine Tree) plays the drums, and Arjen plays all other instruments. When I first heard it I was floored.
