I'm curious to see if they'll be found guilty.

Sounds like the guys at the Fed just want Gibbys for Christmas and don't want to pay the ridiculous prices.

I'm no fan of Gibson's current CEO, but I distrust the Feds completely. The Feds have yet to actually file charges and even if they do they must prove their case. Until they do, Gibson is innocent.

Furthermore, the Presidente of Madagascar has recently legalized the exportation of the wood in question and that has all the Enviro-nazis in a twist and this probably has more to do with the alleged charges than any actual wrongdoing on Gibsons part. Either way it doesn't matter, it's a lose-lose situation for Gibson no matter what. They are either guilty which will cost them Big $$ in fines and lost business (as it should) or they just get bent over and taken from behind for all the costs involved in defending themselves from the Federal sharks.

Guess time will tell.

+1. Personally I hope someone hangs Henry J from the nearest lanyard and replaces him with a lefty-centric CEO.

Sorrry to digress from the topic!

This will probably just give Gibson a reason to hike prices again.

LOL. J. Edgar Hoover left the dept. explicit instructions before he died to round up all the "Lefties", but the Feds couldn't find any. ;)

I don't want to speak for Basshappi, but my guess is he's referring to people that are so far into protecting the environment that they refuse to see anything logical...

The first thing that comes to mind was the huge recent push for all cars to run on 100% ethanol. Some people were pushing so hard to get rid of that "dirty awful gasoline" and to soften our dependence on foreign oil, they lost sight of the fact that turning corn into a valuable fuel commodity could significantly raise its prices disallowing it for use by some countries as food, or cause other crops to go up in prices as well, since so many farmers would try to cash in on selling corn to the government for ethanol conversion.

The same idea would hold true for certain species of trees. Certain species of trees are considered endangered, and hardcore environmentalists might consider the use of that wood unacceptable for any purpose and under any circumstance, EVEN if acrage was set aside specifically for the conservation of that type of tree to be farmed for a specific use.

I might be wrong, but I think that's what he was getting at... I hope that made sense.

Addison has summed this up well enough for this discussion (Thank you Addison). I really do not want to elaborate any further into what would surely become a very heated socio-political commentary.

My main point is that Gibson is Innocent until proven guilty.

Agreed. "Nazi" is a strong accusation and should be used with the greatest of care or risk offending people.

Good lord that is BLEAK. Those people all love the brand, which makes it even more soul-crushing that working there was such a disaster. I'd love to read more about the downfall of Gibson if anybody has something to share.

I had heard that it was bad ..but WOW!

I real shame, Gibson has never been able to really get a handle on bass building still it's an American institution with a history of innovation and it's sad to see it in such a state.

I somehow expected nothing less than the pounding Henry J is taking. The only good thing I can say is that the brand will outlast the current owner.
