Scored a 1983 MIJ Ibanez Artist

Post by ch willie »

I have been looking for one for a couple of decades, and each time I saw one up for sale, I couldn't afford it. Today, I swooped this up on Reverb. My first lefty 6 string was an 1981 that I bought new and foolishly sold a year or more later.

I'll follow up with pics. I'm excited about this one.

The top is much more dazzling than it looks in the pic--lots of flame and not a laminate as far as I know. Made in Japan, it seems like a pretty good quality instrument to me. It plays well. It's less smooth than my Gibby Les Paul Trad and. sounds more like Jimmy Page's guitars on the (somewhat) live album, The Song Remains the Same. In other words, it's a fucking rocker.

Beautiful!

I know John Scofield plays a similar instrument. Not a rocker, but pretty damn great for what it is:

I remember that era so well, I would pick up Guitar Player Magazine monthly. There were so many adds for that guitar, at the same time I was taking lessons and the local music store had so many posters/adds for this guitar.

Congrats!

Congrats! I saw that listing too and thought about buying it as well, but I need another guitar like a hole in the head and didn't exactly have the funds. Glad you beat me to the punch. They were very respectable guitars. One of my all time favorite singer/songwriters, Andy Partridge of XTC, played one.

Thanks, guys. I must have gotten mine after seeing Steve Miller play one. I remember also thinking that Martin Barre had played one, but I think his dc was a Hamer.

I love symetrical DCs. I'll post some pics as soon as I've given it a setup, gotten rid of sticker residue, and strung it up. The strings must be old old, and I don't think the guitar was ever played much.

The ads probably mentioned Steve Miller or someone. I loved the double cut. I'd give my next door neighbor's right nut if I could find the one I bought new in 81.
