Post subject:  First - Pandemic... Now - Hurricane!

Hurricane season has started for us here in the Pacific that calls Hawaii home... and, the first Hurricane of the season, Douglas, is on a path that just may come right over the Island I live on, Oahu.... I've lived here now for forty-one years (since 1978), and this is the first hurricane since I've lived here that may actually come directly at "my Island". Just in the last ten years, or less, hurricane paths have changed their general paths from going below the "Big Island", to going our past the island of Kauai, to now heading farther North than ever before... the last few times hurricanes have followed this recent trajectory, they've lost strength in colder waters; although they've still caused damage from high winds, and massive flooding in select areas due to all the rainfall...

This is the first time I feel alarmed in the forty-one years I've lived here on Oahu... but, I live in a fairly sheltered side of the Island (Kailua), and hope that by the time Douglas passes over Oahu, it will no longer be a hurricane, but a Tropical Storm that just causes some wind damage, and flooding... wish me will, and that all of my forty-six bases survive hellfire and damnation! :D

I am in the Philly area When Katrina hit or one of the big storms for the first time in 20 years I moved all my basses to a safe location. Glad I did cause we got approx 1ft of water in our basement, normally the basses are 6 inch's off the ground as flooding has never been bad. Stay Safe, Good Luck and hope all works out for you and all on the islands.

Thanks for all the "be safe" wishes guys... at this point, it's 1:28pm in the early afternoon... sky is overcast here in Kailua, on the North side of the Island. Wind hasn't picked up much yet, but depending on how the Douglas tracks, winds could be approaching 90-plus mph later tonight. At this point, the storm is moving parallel to the Islands. The biggest concern is if the storm decides to turn, and come directly over Oahu. As it looks now, even if it parallels Oahu, we will be getting the outside bands of the storm, and will definitely get a lot of rain, somewhere around 8pm.

Fortunately, although I'm only about a 1/2 mile from the Kaliua Beach, any storm surge won't come towards me, based on the lay of the land,as well as several creeks that can take up excess water. I'll keep you all informed as the hours go by, and if the electricity stays on! :)

This is a Satellite view of Kailua, Hi.... the Red Tera-drop marker is my house... you can see how close I am to the beach, with various creeks, lake, ponds to take up some of the storm surge... Kailua Beach has always made the list for top Ten-Twenty beaches in the world - it's a beautiful place to live....

Alright - the Bullet has been dodged! Hurricane Douglas decided to stay in its Northern track and other than overcast skies, and a bit of light rain, nothing out of the ordinary... Kauai may still get some heavy rains, as the storm appears to be turning towards that Island, but we're all OK here on Oahu... back to normal! :)
