I have pretty direct knowledge, from a friend of Henry's, and a major dealer of Gibsons.. that one of the things that is killing the company, are those stupid robot tuner equipped guitars. Gibson forced A list dealers to buy them.. passing on their failure to understand the actual wants and needs of their customers. Try bending a note on one of them. That, and likely collusion with Asian companies making direct rip off copies, complete with 'Made in U.S.A.' and Gibson style serial numbers... is the cancer that killed them. This is nothing new for Gibson. They have made so many bombs, it isn't funny. The 'Bluesbird,' The Nomex body guitars...and the victory basses.... If they really knew what we wanted, we'd have lefty EB-2'd's, Rippers, Thunderbirds in both 1 and 2, in reverse and non-reverse. But, Gibson did what it did. I believe that Gibson will still be here when the dust settles. And that's good, because look at Chrysler now. They were dead and buried.. bankruptcy was the best thing to happen to them.

Update to my previous wondering about the Thunderbird basses: I ordered another Thunderbird in October 2017 and it showed up this week. So nearly a 10 month wait to get the order.

Kind of a drag because I'm not even doing the band I bought the bass for any more. I think I'm just going to sell it.

Major drag. Talk about anticlimactic.

I haven't looked in the control cavity but I suspect this 2018 Thunderbird has either higher value pots or different pickups than the 2013 one I got. This 2018 sound killer as is, the stock electronics have much more presence and clarity. The 2013 sounded dark and muffled with it's stock electronics (which I swapped out).

I have worn jeans while playing a Gibson, so it makes sense to me
