Ugh, yeah, the file size limit comes into play, too.
On my android phone, I use an app called LitPhoto to shrink everything. It's pretty easy to use, although the ads have gotten obstreperous.
On my Mac I use Preview to adjust the file size and dimensions.
Sometimes I just share pictures on WhatsApp, and then download them again from there as a super-lazy way of resizing them
