well the lead guitar player in my band got us a acoustic gig at a small resturant and i dont own a acoustic bass so all i have are electric i was thinking of bringing one of my p-basses with my ampeg ba-115 will that go over well or not please help me out thanks

I can't see the problem, just be carefull with the volume. But thats just me, i don't like the sound from an acoustic bass. I've always heard acoustics been played through amp, could the compete with a guitar, regarding the volume?

I've used my old PBass a lot acoustic sets. I shove a sponge under the strings next to the bridge and roll off the treble, thumps like my upright and a lot easier to haul around.

yeah i have tryed the sponge thing it makes my D and G strings dead am i doing something wrong?

use a piece of foam or mute with your palm playing with your thumb (like Sting) - But it is actually the idea, to make the sound thumpy like an Upright with less sustain.

frenchy just slide a peice of foam or sponge under the strings right should it be angeled?

Also google Bob Babbitt and Carol Kaye, both are studio musicians that used this technique in the 60's on their Fenders. I took a pair of scissors and shaped the foam until I got the sound I wanted on each string. It took some trial and error, but hey, it's just a chunk of foam!

Yes trial and error. Tony Levin has recounted many times that while recording the album So with Peter Gabriel he was using some baby diapers to mute his Stingray. It sounds particularly cool with Flatwound strings.

An awesome alternative for acoustic sets would be to change the strings for Rotosound Nylon Taperwound. It sounds absolutely perfect for an acoustic gig. It gets really close to an upright sound.
