Saw preorders for new vintage modified Squier basses on Reverb. Precision & Jazz.

I have to say, these look pretty sharp. The classic and/or vintage modified instruments have always impressed me. (The butterscotch Telecaster guitar was excellent). I liked them better than the previous generation MIM Fenders:

Classic Vibe 60's P:

Classic Vibe 70's J:

And, there's even going to be a lefty Jazzmaster, exciting news for those of us who play guitar too:

Oh, damn, Muck! I might have to get me one of them J's!

Maybe beef up the bridge a little.

I'm especially interested in that Jazzmaster g**t*r. Looks very nice! I hear the new series is made in Indonesia whereas the previous Classic Vibe series was made in China. Don't know if it changes anything, but I'm really curious about these!

Oh look. Black. And sunburst. That's... different?

I love the Player series and Sweetwater has a few white on white P-basses.

I have a Sweetwater CC and I'm not afraid to use it!

I'm with you on the lack of finish options, but I think that 70's J with the black finish/black block inlay maple neck looks killer.

Yeah I actually dig the Jazz too. Might be fun to grab one as a beater/mod platform. And I got the name wrong. Classic vibe, not vintage modified.

Anyone know how poplar holds up as a body wood?

The only poplar body bass I ever owned was an 80's Guild Pilot. Upside very lightweight and resonant. Downside softer wood dinged pretty easily.

Sounds like basswood. Probably have to worry about screw holes stripping I imagine?

My Status Series 2 5-string has a poplar body, and it's fairly lightweight and resonant. I haven't bumped it into anything yet, so I can't comment on how solid and sturdy it is, but the polyester finish on that bass is really tough. And I used to have a Jackson DK2L with a poplar body that was fine too. Fender made all their Mexican instruments with poplar bodies for years (in the 90s mostly I think).

Toothpicks! Fill the stripped screw holes with them and you're good to go! ;)
