Perhaps the owner may not be aware of what he has...? https://pennstate.craigslist.org/msg/d/ ... 07673.html     I'm selling my left handed American Hot Rod Fender P-Bass. I've owned it since 2004 but haven't gotten the use I'd hoped to out of. It's got a few screw holes from when the original owner changed the tuners and had a pickup cover. But other than that it's been well maintained. Also included is a gig bag and stand. Not in a huge hurry to get rid of it but price is negotiable. |

It does look suspicious, especially the headstock decal. But a Squier would not have the truss rod adjust at the heel of the neck, and that bridge is USA Fender (with multiple saddle grooves for adjusting the string spacing), and the finish on the neck looks nicer than a Squier's, and the serial number looks better than the front of the headstock. A proper Hot Rod in white would have been white blonde, a transparent finish. This one looks solid. And the replaced tuners are suspicious. This one is confusing! |

The neck appears to be an American Standard neck with an aftermarket Decal. The tuners are correct to this neck, but someone installed the 70's style Fender tuners on it based on the mounting hole pattern. From the little you can see of the neck joint, there is no recess for truss rod adjustment at the heel. I think Paulo may be correct, that at least the body is a Squier Special body with an American Standard neck. A picture of the neck and neck pocket would tell. The Squier Specials have a wider neck then a standard Fender neck and the pocket would look sloppy. The bridge may have been added. |

Serial on the back of the headstock says it's US made in 2000-2001... I'm assuming it's a frankenbass now, with a Squier body. |

It’s a Fender Hotrod P bass. It belonged to me years ago. I installed Gotoh tuners in place of the stock ones and changed the headstock decal. The pickguard though is not original. It was a tort guard that came installed on the bass when I bought it. I purchased it from Southpaw Guitars in 1999 if I remember correctly. |
