Wow that's a Great Bass for that Price, Fender Japan has great quality! Yes you take a hit on shipping but still a great value.

And this is one of few Japanese models without a basswood body. Great basses.

Is this the model that one of you mentioned in another thread as having a neck profile similar to a 70's B neck?

That's exactly the model. 7.25" radius 1 9/16 @ nut and a nice 70's contoured neck. Alder body also. Love mine.

So I bought it. A day later I get a message from the Japanese seller: "I am very sorry, but we no longer have this in stock." I can refund your money or I have another in stock for $50 more." :x I tell him I have no intention of paying any more for an item I already bought (and, as it turns out, it is NOT the same exact bass, but a white '62RI) and he shouldn't have it listed for sale if he doesn't have it!. So the sale was cancelled and my money was refunded.

I just have to wonder how many of these Japanese sellers do the same exact thing and try to pull this bait and switch BS.

That sucks, sorry to hear it. Of course, glad you got your money back.

I often see more than one listing from Japan for the same exact instrument - same photos, slightly tweaked description - but with the price and shipping costs altered. For example, $850+$100 shipping on one listing and $950+free shipping on the other identical item listing. I don't know if this practice is against ebay policy, and I can see the argument to catch people who search for items with free shipping, but it feels wrong and slimey. And, related to your experience, I wonder what would happen if both listings sold at the same time (for one item!). I've been tempted to buy both listings with different accounts just to see what the seller would do! And then cancel both to prove a point! What a frustrating sellers practice!
