Not sure it's totally legit, but I think it looks cool:

Stripped finish, but looks legit. What didn’t look right about it?

The finish I thought looks strange with the one bright spot - not a vintage expert so not sure about all the details. I'm superficial so I just like its road worn look :) The headstock finish looks like it's seen a lot of cigarette smoke.

Yep someone stripped the body many moons ago and played the shit out of it. And several of the 70s jazz Basses I’ve owned have had a very orange-y headstock. Someone correct me if I’m wrong but I think they shot the pegheads with nitro while using poly everywhere else, hence the headstock color. Definitely looks legit though! 8-)

Matt, you are right about the finish on the headstock. I am so not sure it is a re-finish though.
The pickguard is the correct color for natural, and I have seen many righties this color
and with mis-matched wood grain. The tint and the checking looks right. I would not place
money on a bet though.

Yep, on looking back at it I agree. Pretty sure it’s just a natural finish. I had a ‘73 that was similar. For some reason it looked like an alder body stripped down to the sealer, then I remembered they didn’t do those years in alder. That’s ash. Brain fart on my part.

A look at the neck pocket would help to determine the refi question.

A couple of other details I noticed.
1) Looks like it's been exposed to a great deal of moisture. A lot of rust. Would like to see the condition of the pots and control cavity.
2) The nut looks like it was cut for a right handed set up. Doesn't look like there is an extra strap button hole, but from the pictures you can't tell for sure. Maybe owned by a lefty who played it stung righty.

Right between the Bridge Pickup and the Bridge, around the hole for the Bridge cover is a mark that looks like a very long U shape marking? Any idea on what that is?

It's a finish crack. If I had to bet, I would say the body is a refi. To me from the pictures it doesn't look to be the thick poly factory finish that is characteristic of that time period. Old, but not original poly. Looks rather thin. But pictures can be misleading. Shots of the neck pocket and pickup and control cavities could help a lot.

Agreed there are finish cracks but this one is more of a defined U shape, seems like a similar circle around the hole for the Bridge Cover.

Here is a pic with an arrow, it's more of just wondering but it's an odd mark.

It looks legit hence the body finish. I think someone stripped it and put a light lacquer on it of some sort that is yellowing in time . Location is Florida.... HOT!!!!!

I love when the old Fenders take on that caramel color. My '73 P bass has that same look. Headstock and body are caramel but the maple neck's still pretty light maple looking. Though the body on mine was stripped and refinished at some point.

Somebody explain this to me, 'cause I don't get it. He bought it for $1699.99, but he's parting it out for a grand total of $1718.00 (+$50.00 in shipping) IF someone pays the BIN price, yet he's offering a Make an Offer on both too. So with a $68.00 total markup from what he already paid at the BIN price, and ebay fees t/b factored in, how does he plan on making any money on these???

Yep, he has some strong prices on some of the other pieces, and he doesn't budge much on his prices. It all adds up, but it's looks like a bit of a risk to me. Seems he eventually sells a lot of it though. No one else was interested at $1699.99. He bought it with one bid. In the condition it was in I thought it was too high. If he sells most of it close to his asking price he could turn a 35 to 50% profit. Here are a couple other parts.

I don't mind anyone parting out instruments. It's a free market, and there's a demand for vintage parts. I've bought two vintage Fender parts and might buy more in the future, so I'd be a hyprocrite for speaking out against it.

But... given my direct experiences with and resulting communications from this guy Mike Hultin, I'll avoid him at all costs.

I've had two Ebay transactions/communications with him. After the first, I added him (michael_atw) to my blocked bidders list.

Then he used another Ebay ID (hulti_2014) to get around the block and buy another item from me. Fortunately Ebay allowed me to cancel the transaction and his feedback.

I've had 71 transactions on Ebay and only two of them have been poor - both with him.

Just sharing my experience. Yours might be different.

Yeah, I got into a heated argument with him for this exact detrimental behavior.
I used to assume that parts came from instruments that had, say, a twisted neck and
was unplayable. But this is where I draw the line - especially with lefty instruments.
These people who do this are pieces of shit.
