That's not a Corvette (although they share the same bodyshape) but actually an FNA Masterman. Not very common. The FNA Jazzman (with added J-style neck pickup) is much more popular and common.

In 1988 I thought Warwick still had the serial # at the very top of the headstock and did not yet have a volute?

Hmmm, yea there are some questions. I do know these were a limited run and are old but didn't know 80's. I thought they came out in the 90's. Good question to the seller is see the back of the headstock to see if it does have the volute. I cant tell from the craigslist pics. This is old so its probably got the old simple electronics. I also thought they were 3 knob not 4. Maybe he added one.

You can see where the volute starts to slope up at the very bottom of the CL pic. Also I believe the older serial #s have a larger and slightly different font. I wonder if the neck is a trade-in/repair from an older neck since Warwick only does neck-for-neck. Perhaps it's the original serial # from the original neck stamped on the new replacement neck with the newer style font/size? Just speculation on my part.

You're absolutely right! These were introduced in 1997 by the name Warwick Altus, a more luxurious version of the Corvette, but they had to drop the name after a violin maker who owned the rights to that name threatened to sue. So they renamed it to FNA (Formerly Named Altus, or F***ing Not Altus).

I heart this story.

If you look at image 4 in the listing, you can see a subtle difference in the last two numbers- my guess is it’s a poorly stamped “98” rather than an “88”. It’s very similar to this righty:

https://forum.bass-arena.com/threads/fo ... 998.17098/

It has the same just-a-nut 1 as my 95 Fortress. This one has a replacement trussrod cover, however.

I don't doubt it from the 90's, but thats an "88" all day, for some reason or another.

So.... is the bass worth the price, regardless of the discrepancies?

I found this post after I bought the bass. I just received it yesterday. It needed serious cleaning and a setup. The
neck is twisted from being stored in a closet for years. It's already starting to straighten in my studio. I paid quite a bit less then asking price.

Cheers
