Never seen one with this finish on.
Also never seen a Deluxe JB with a square neck plate.

That would be Crimson Red Transparent :)
First time I see a lefty in that colour.

That's a pretty juicy color.

Like, seriously, it's making me thirsty.

I so wanna snag one of these at some point. Seems like I’ve heard several times that the preamps are lame. Anyone know anything about these tonally?

The preamps are lame.

Very harsh treble tones.

FYI, these were $999 new from MF in 2008. I bought one, then sold it a year later for $999.

They are easily modified to passive though, just by replacing the control plate. If you don't mind the side jack and the then useless battery box.

I have a 1999, the square neck plate was standard back then. I haven't played it in quite a while, but I do remember the build quality and playability being very good. Seems there are folks on both sides of either loving/hating on the preamp, but I don't recall being particularly put off by it tonally for an active jazz bass; I'll have to pull it out and report back.

Nice, thanks again for sharing the info, Carmine! :)
It seems like these have a slightly smaller body...?

I have a 2007 one, they do have a slightly smaller body, but this is easily my most favorite bass of all the ones I have ever owned. It helped that I got mine for $700, I wouldn't pay $1300 for it like he is asking though

These preamps are not bad. Pretty versatile actually.

Chris Wolstenholme of Muse played these a lot live before switching to Pedulla and eventually Status. Saw them live in 2006 and he was playing at least 3 of these exclusively, his main one being an awesome Candy Orange one.

There's one in Queens, NY in the exact same finish, possibly the exact same bass but much cheaper at $850: https://www.guitarcenter.com/Used/Fende ... -Guitar.gc

I actually had a trans crimson red lefty one of these for a short time bought from a local GC. I wanted to keep it so bad but the truss nut was stuck. Sad. The slightly scaled down body was perfect though. I agree with those who didn't care much for the preamp as it didn't sound that great though that could be those noiseless J pickups as well. The 24 fret neck seemed a bit long as well but so light weight and the string through allowed for a great break angle when the saddles were set low. Very very cool basses.
