I don't want to crush Alex's sale but this is the same bass I got from Slybass3000 (Sylvain) here and sold to Lefty Vintage Guitars. Alex does an amazing job of taking high quality photos and writing point perfect details about the bass but also does a like mark up. Again it's a great bass and I had to look at the pictures twice to see it was the same one I got here from Sylvain but gulped at the asking price.

Well he can ask whatever he wants but it's only worth what someone will pay for it.

He certainly targets collectors/investors and asks high-end collector prices. And he's listed and sold some very collectable vintage instruments.

At least you know no one's going to pay that much and try to part it out for profit. :)

Yep, that's always the case. It's the old supply and demand aspect of collecting economics. In the case of these single coil Tele basses there is a very low supply. I finally bought one just about a year ago. I had been looking religiously for about 15 years on eBay, this forum.and various dealer sites. During that time counting this one I only remember seeing five The first one I saw was on eBay about 12 years ago. I dropped out of the bidding at $3600. It sold for $3900. My memory of it was that it was in very goods condition, but at that time I had very little knowledge and experience with vintage basses. A few years later I realized I probably missed a rare opportunity. One of the five that popped up about 2 years ago was butchered by a a righty and not even a consideration especially at the listed price. The fourth was listed on eBay on and off about 8 years ago for around $5900. It hung around for quite a while and finally was listed as sold. It was in good shape but not as nice as as Bob's. A little more body wear and the neck pocket had a bit of router clean up done and a shim added. It was cleanly done and you could't tell with the neck assembled. Possibly professionally done. The fifth the one, I eventually bought, popped up on Reverb and was listed in the lefty spotted section here. It was in Canada, a steal at about $3800 including shipping. I first saw it at 2:30 AM after getting home from a gig. Later the next day it was sold. Literally a case of you snooze you loose. As fate would have it it resurfaced a few months later at one of the big dealers about an hour away. As was the case as Bob's it was significantly more expensive this time. After bit of haggling I traded a number of basses and cash and took it home. Off course it appeared as sold at the listed price. On the plus side that probably helped Bob's sale price on his ( at lease I hope so), but possibly influenced this dealers price. Hard for even me to determine exactly what price to fix on my deal since so much of the deal was in trade. Mine is a 68 and is in excellent shape probably at lease 9.85. Only 3 very small nicks on the back bottom edge and 2 smaller ones on the front below the controls. The neck is near perfect. It weighs in at about 8. 6 pounds and came with it's original period right handed case, owner manual and strap. I wouldn't consider myself an expert by any means but from all my years of searching.looking and learning, I wouldn't be surprised if it isn't one of the best examples in existence. I also wouldn't argue with anyone that would say I may haven given a ridiculous amount to get it, but in this instance I knew it may be a bit much, but it was worth it to me. I felt it may be long wait ,if ever, before another in it's condition would surface. That said I thought Bob's asking price was very reasonable and wasn't surprised to see that it sold quickly. What's it worth now, we'll have to wait and see . As Grant said it's only worth what someone is willing to pay. An collector/antique dealer once told me "Just remember, you never pay too much you just buy it too soon." So if that's true, at 67 years old I better make plans to be buried with mine!
