New model coming soon. (Expected in March). There's a mock up picture in their "Coming Soon" Custom Shop section, but not shown on the description page for the bass:

Scroll down to the EB-1 lefty bass photo and click on Quick view to see other pix here:

I dig it. I had a 1970 Gibson EB-1 , righty and flipped it to lefty. Cool basses. Price seems reasonable. Interesting that they're building them with a 32" scale and a chambered body.

Ohh, got it!

The bad side of it from my experience is, Eastwood uses the cheapest and lowest quality hardware, it would be a pain to find replacement hardware for this bass...
Other than that, the build and finish is always nice!

Are those specs different than the originals? I have no idea. Never had the pleasure of holding on. :)

At any rate, I always dug the look (and sound) of the originals, with Jack Bruce being the only reference I have in mind.

My 1970 EB-1 was a Gibson reissue of their 50's model. 30.5" Scale, Grover tuners(not the banjo tuners as on the original 50's EB-1 and on the Eastwoods.) Mahogany body and neck with rosewood fingerboard. It was pretty heavy, around 10 lbs. It had the original end pin stand but I never used it. Paid $400. for it at We Buy on W 48th St. in the mid seventies. Was pretty much a one trick pony because of the single humbucker in the neck position, but it had a good low end tone for reggae and dub.
Felix Pappalardi used an EB-1 on most of his work with Mountain. He got a good rock tone from his.

I think it looks cool and different. I think they must have been very few Gibson ones made it to the UK - only one I've seen was in a magazine review of a collectors example way back in the 70's(International Musician?).
Tone limitations would put me off, and I think a bridge pickup would spoil the look. Maybe a buried piezo? ...
but that would need buffer electronics on board.

The Eastwood probably has more in common with the old Univox Lectra bass (1970-1974) than a Gibson EB-1. The Lectra had a chambered hollow body too, just didn't have an F hole cut out. These sound great btw.

The one thing I don't like about the Eastwood design is the positioning of the bridge so far up toward the neck (even further up than on the Lectra)- it makes the Eastwood's butt end look disproportionately large/ awkward. Maybe the bridge positioning is due to the 32" scale... however, the Epiphone EB-1 also had a 32" medium scale and the bridge wasn't positioned like that because the neck heel was further into the body, which was a much more "balanced" look imo. And in keeping with the original Gibson design, the Epiphone had a carved solid mahogany body, painted-on F-hole, mahogany neck, even a telescoping upright peg. It was only offered for a couple years (1998-2001).

Both the Lectra and the Epiphone were offered in Fretted or Fretless versions- I wonder if Eastwood is considering this as well?

Completely agree, Carmine. The bridge position looks ridiculous in comparison. And I'd have to question the intonation, sound, and string tension having it that far up too, its it looks drastically repositioned.

Such an ugly word...I'm sure Gibson prefers PJ's definition: "drastically repositioned"

Dear Henry Juszkiewicz:

We regret to inform you that you have been drastically repositioned. Please accept this golden parachute as our token of appreciation, and best of luck ruining another company in your future endeavors.

Very, very funny.

You know, if it was hollow bodied acoustic and needed those "f" holes, then the bridge would be dead centre of the f.
