SUPER rare! :o And I'm very surprised to see the weight coming at 8.5lbs, as most of the P basses I've encountered from that period were 10+lbs.

ALL ORIGINAL......

Pickguard is "not" original. Curious to see the pickup dates and pot dates. If mint and all original it might be worth that.

Something a little odd with the intonation?

Also, what’s the deal with the top of the skunk stripe near the headstock?

Not sure what you mean - looks about the same as my '78

Looks like a birthmark near the top?

Was once strung righty? Still, that means the E-string had an issue....

Strings are misaligned a bit towards the treble side of the neck and pickup poles.

G saddle looks very wrong don't it?
Still, a few minutes putting that saddle back and straightening the neck alignment in the pocket would have done wonders for its presentation.

Something looks weird by the arm cutaway.
Looks like a piece of the body is separating, like a crack.
And agreed, presentation on this is bad, but the words are sweet...
Hmm...

Here's a comparison

If mine is fake or not period-correct, that'd be news to me.

I meant the back of the neck - the skunk stripe from trussrod insertion. Looks odd at the very top of the stripe by the headstock..

Oh I totally missed that pic!
Not sure what that is, almost looks like a finish or stain flaw though. I don't see any wood missing.

It seems that it was made by the neck rest support in the case.

That stain on the back of the neck looks like thumb sweat staining. Maybe the owner played a lot in the low registry and sweat/wear rubbed under the satin clear coat. I had an old 78 P bass that had this all over the neck.

Hey pjmuck, I missed your comment, I have a late 76 and it has the same weight, with frets! :)
The body is so light the neck almost wants to go down!
But of course the fretless is more of a rare bird!
