Ground lead from bridge to the electronics. Usually it's just a thin wire.

True. The newer 60s style pickups come with these wide ground straps. I have an 80s era 60sRI and it has the old school skinny type. This is a nice bass by the way!

The cracks look like are only in the paint, not the wood I think but it's always hard to tell.
