That's an insane price! I wonder if they're any good? They probably can't legally sell that in the US, either.

I've heard good things about this basses, also I wouldn't worry about buying anything from across the pond at this point, I've bought basses that came from Brazil and Japan recently and also shipped one to Canada and they all made to the end point safe and sound, and they all had rosewood... I also haven't of any problem from other sellers.
I'll like to order one of these but not right now. Maybe in a few months.

I actually meant because of the body shape. Rickenbacker has exclusive legal rights to the silhouette in the USA and they guard that right vigorously and enthusiastically.

Oh you're talking about the body shape... The basses that came to me where perfectly sealed, they never opened the boxes so I still don't think that should be a problem to slip one through the border. But that's just what I think of course! :)
Maybe after buying one and trying to show off in a forum they can come after you but you can always say, "oh it was a gift".
Again that's just "maybe"... :)

Nothing illegal about buying or owning them, but selling is off limits. So it might be challenging to get a dealer to ship to you. Not unheard of though.

They've even been known to clamp down on online used listings of fakes if they find out about them.
Personally I'd wager a legit entry level 4003 would sell like hot cakes, so why are they protecting the market if they're not gonna produce in it? They already have a Ric in every Guitar Center, distribution isn't even an issue.
