I know nothing about these, but the pickup mounting doesn't add up to me.

Yeah, I would be curious to see what the routing looks like underneath that custom pickup plate. I doubt it could be too bad as the plate isn't that big. It also matches the body wood very well. At first I was thinking that it perhaps originally came with a humbucker, but it was removed in favor of a split-coil, but it doesn't look like the routing is big enough. It really looks to be in great shape!

I'm sure Jayce will fill us in!

I have not seen one with a faux wood finish on the back of the neck, before! :lol: From what I have seen, this is actually a pretty good price. I have never played an instrument with an aluminum neck. I'd like to give it a try!

The description says it has a coil-tap. How does that work with a split-coil pickup?

That's definitely the stock pickup cover shape. kramer does it weird cause that's how they do.

Every DMZ4000 I've seen had a black DiMarzio PUP and matching plate. I doubt this is stock. It's nice looking though. Here's more info about the DMZ series (scroll down to photo and description). It talks about the split coil. I'm guessing that the switch might act like an S1?

Hmmm. I've honestly never seen a 4000 with a matching wood pickup surround before. It's possible someone added that as an after market bling thing. The 4000 and 4001 crossed over at the end of the 4000 and beginning of the 4001 period. This really could be either. The pickups on the later 4000's and all of the 4001 models were some kind of active Dimarzios that I think were stacked in some sort of humbucker config. I actually have one of the later 4000 models with all these switches that was unfortunately turned into a passive bass by a previous owner and bypasses all the switches.

Overall, I would say this is a great deal! Either way, it looks to be in fantastic shape. I might even think about it myself..... but probably can't afford the divorce procedure another bass would trigger at this point. Haha.

That is a beautiful bass! Although a thousand bucks isn't a lot, it's right on the cusp of being a bit too much, especially at this point in time... damn! Would like to buy it, just because it's a piece of artwork!
