Those prices are mostly way above an appropriate value and some people have even speculated that the owner is really a collector has no interest in selling. Unless maybe someone was willing to pay that kind of money, and you'd have to be pretty rich and really dumb to do that.

But, yeah... I'd LOOOOOVE that antigua jazz. So killer.

Totally agree... and interesting thought about it being a collector just posting their stuff (sort of like the ridiculous "Make Me Move" prices people post on Zillow, i.e., pay me enough and I'll part with 'em)... it's just amazing to see them all in one place...

Has anyone ever talked to the seller / inquired about one of the basses?

a LOT of these basses were listed on eBay thru the years. This store had bought a crap load of the basses listed and jacked up the prices. A lot of them are still there due to the high prices so how do they really know they are 100% original?

I wish I had some disposable funds for that 63' P bass tho......

Great collection, and yeah, way overpriced. I think a '73 Jazz I used to own made its way to this store at one point.

If you needed a bass to look at as a guide to relic'ing a new bass, the '63 Fender would the one to mimic!

The prices are kinda on the high side BUT.......

In Italy - as in most of Europe - there is a VAT (value added tax) on just about everything bought or sold included in the price. In Italy, the VAT rate is 22%. That means that the €3100 he is asking for the '78 Antigua P-Bass is actually 122% of what he perceives the value to be.

Now, if you are a retailer in Italy and you are shipping the item out of the country, you can remove the VAT. Even if you went there in person on vacation and bought something, you would have to pay the VAT and then - hopefully - claim it back by filling out some paperwork at the airport. (I say hopefully because Italy is one of the most slow moving, bureaucratic entities on the planet. (And possibly, kinda corrupt.) Still, if he shipped it to North America, you should save the VAT.

€3100 is about $3500 USD. If you subtract the VAT that makes it about $2868 USD. I'm not saying that is cheap but it's hitting the range a little more. Also, it wouldn't be uncommon for a retailer to expect some negotiation on anything that's a used item in Italy.

Some year ago i negotiate a few with the original seller and it was black, and the price we were talking about was wayyy lower.

I ended up letting the bass go because the man was reluctant to provide me photos of the internals of the bass, he wanted me to go there and check the bass in first person.
